Antwerp's Yusuf names Chelsea ace as no. 1 defensive midfielder, targets Premier League move
Published: October 28, 2021Royal Antwerp young star Alhassan Yusuf is targeting a move to the English Premier League in future and believes that Chelsea ace N'Golo Kante is the best defensive midfielder on the planet.
A product of Tiki Taka Academy in his homeland, Yusuf enjoyed a stellar three years with Swedish Allsvenskan club IFK Göteborg, winning the Newcomer of the Year in the division for 2019.
On the back of excellent displays for IFK Göteborg, the 21-year-old was linked with a possible move to the English Premier League, but ended up joining Antwerp in the summer transfer window to continue his development.
The Nigerian has often been compared to Kante, one of the main architects behind Chelsea winning the UEFA Champions League last season.
A World Cup winner in 1998, the humble Frenchman has been hailed globally for his defensive qualities in the middle of the park.
In quotes relayed by Voetbal Primeur and originally published by HLN, Yusuf said : "My personal ambitions? Football as much as possible.
"Of course a bigger competition appeals to me. The Premier League is a dream for every footballer. But first I want to play a lot at Antwerp."
On Kante, Yusuf said : "He's just number one. His way of working, how he assesses things, the resistance he offers. He makes everything seem easy when it isn't."
Yusuf has already participated in eight matches for Antwerp and was in action for 566 minutes.
