Ex-Tottenham winger of Nigerian descent reveals he chose PSV over Chelsea, Man Utd
Published: October 26, 2021Tottenham Hotspur academy product Nonso Madueke has revealed that he turned down potential moves to Manchester United and Chelsea before sealing a transfer to PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2018.
The England U21 international of Nigerian descent put the Premier League giants on alert after declining a scholarship offer from Tottenham.
Madueke was one of the most highly rated youngsters in Tottenham Hotspur's youth set up, making his competitive debut in the U18 Premier League whilst still a schoolboy.
The Anglo-Nigerian winger opted for PSV Eindhoven over his English suitors in order to maximize his chances of playing first team football.
And his bold decision to reject Manchester United and Chelsea paid off as he forced his way into the first team picture at PSV twenty months after his arrival in the Netherlands.
Speaking to BBC, Madueke explained : "Chelsea, Manchester United, a lot of European clubs [made offers].
"I came here one time and as soon as I came I wanted to sign straight away. I knew going from Tottenham to United is pretty much the same thing.

"The reason I wanted to go was to progress quicker into the first team. PSV is a top European club. It made so much sense at the time and it makes sense now."
Madueke pledged his loyalty to PSV in August by signing a new deal until June 30, 2025.
