PL 2 : Two Nigeria-eligible players on target for Arsenal in 4-0 rout of Everton
Published: October 22, 2021Arsenal returned to winning ways in the Premier League 2 on Friday evening, thrashing Everton 4-0 in a matchday nine fixture at Meadow Park.
As many as eight Nigeria-eligible players were named in Arsenal's matchday squad, with goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo, defenders Mazeed Ogungbo and Ryan Alebiosu, midfielder Tim Akinola and striker Folarin Balogun all starting, while Ovie Ejeheri, Joel Ideho and Nathan Butler-Oyedeji were on the bench.
Balogun continued his fantastic start to the season at youth level when he finished past Toffees goalkeeper Harry Tyrer to open the scoring eight minutes before half-time.
A nominee for the Premier League 2 Player of the Month for September 2021, the England youth international took his tally to seven goals in his last six games in the division.
Oulad M'Hand doubled the Gunners' lead in the 74th minute before Alebiosu netted his first goal in the Premier League 2 at minute 78.
Alebiosu then turned from scorer to provider when he teed up Zak Swanson for Arsenal's fourth goal in stoppage time.
Butler-Oyedeji and Ideho entered the game as substitutes in the 84th and 87th minute respectively, the latter replacing Akinola.
Following their sixth win of the season, Arsenal are second in the provisional Premier League 2 standings with nineteen points accumulated, one less than leaders and champions Manchester City.
