Super Eagles midfielder writes his name into Brentford record books
Published: October 09, 2021According to Brentford's official website, Frank Onyeka entered into Brentford's record books when he started Nigeria's 2022 World Cup qualifying match against Central African Republic on Thursday, October 7.
Since Brentford entered the Football League more than a century ago, Onyeka is the 50th player who has been capped at full international level while contracted to the club.
The FC Ebedei product made his senior debut for the Super Eagles in an international friendly against Algeria exactly a year ago, playing the whole of the first half before making way for Mikel Agu.
Sam Sodje has the honour of being the first player to play international football for Nigeria while on the books of the Bees.
Kamohelo Mokotjo (South Africa), Julian Jeanvier (Guinea), Saïd Benrahma (Algeria) and Tariqe Fosu (Ghana) won international caps for their countries as Brentford players.
Onyeka was in contention to make his competitive debut for the Super Eagles last month in a World Cup qualifier against Liberia, only for the midfielder to withdraw from the roster after a positive Covid-19 test.
The 23-year-old has suited up eight times in all competitions since joining Brentford from sister club FC Midtjylland in July 2021.
