'It's A Shot That Wasn't Going In' - Eddie Howe On Semi Ajayi's Deflected Effort Vs Man City
Published: December 16, 2020Former Bournemouth coach Eddie Howe has insisted that West Brom were fortunate to grab a point in their Premier League meeting with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night.
Pep Guardiola's side were dominant and deservedly took the lead through Gündogan following a cutback from Raheem Sterling but Semi Ajayi restored parity for the Baggies when his shot from the edge of the box was deflected past Ederson in the 43rd minute.
The Super Eagles defender has to wait for his first goal in the Premier League as Manchester City's Ruben Dias got the final touch and it was eventually credited as an own goal.
Speaking as a pundit for Premier League Productions after the game, Howe said : "This is what West Brom played for, they knew every time they got a free-kick or corner around the box they had to make it count.
"It's an ugly goal if you like because it's a second ball, they kept it alive, it's a shot that wasn't going in, they got a slice of fortune.
"They deserve that with the work rate the squad put in tonight, how committed they were, they deserve that bit of fortune."

Ajayi has gone the distance in twelve of the thirteen games played by the Baggies in the top-flight this season and has been cautioned twice.
