'Wanted To Make Sure We Won' - Azeez Reacts To Pro Debut 13 Years After Joining Arsenal
Published: December 10, 2020Tri-eligible central midfielder Miguel Azeez was full of happiness after making his professional debut for Arsenal in their 4-2 thrashing of Dundalk in the Europa League on Thursday evening.
Born in England to a Nigerian father and Spanish mother, the 18-year-old Azeez finally made his long awaited debut for the first team thirteen years after joining Arsenal, playing the last seven minutes after coming off the bench to replace Joe Willock.
Azeez was delighted to help Arsenal see out the game and maintain their one hundred percent record in this season's Europa League.
"I'm buzzing. I'm happy and overjoyed with the experience. I'm so grateful that I was able to get the experience and all the hard work has paid off today," Azeez said to Arsenal's official website, arsenal.com.
On how it felt to be told he was coming on, the England youth international said : "I just wanted to play my game because that's why I'm here.
"I didn't want to do anything that I'm not used to doing. I just wanted to see the game out and make sure we won and put in a good performance."
Azeez is one of four players of Nigerian descent registered by Arsenal for the Europa League, the others being goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo, fullback Ryan Alebiosu and striker Folarin Balogun.
He inked his first professional contract with the north London club in September 2019.
