Super Eagles Center Back Semi Ajayi Reveals Why West Brom Lost To Crystal Palace
Published: December 07, 2020Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi believes the red card shown to Matheus Pereira in the 34th minute of their 5-1 loss to Crystal Palace changed the game.
Before the dismissal of the Brazilian winger for violent conduct after a VAR review, the Baggies were very much in the game as Chelsea loanee Conor Gallagher had cancelled out the Eagles opener.
The red card proved pivotal as Wilfried Zaha and Christian Benteke each scored twice in the second half to give Crystal Palace a comprehensive win.
"I think it was a very even game before the red card. If anything I thought we were edging it," Ajayi told West Brom's official website.
"Going down to ten men changed things massively, but I don’t think it should’ve had as much of an effect on our performance as it did."

The defeat left West Brom 19th in the standings with six points from eleven matches ahead of their trip to Newcastle United on Saturday, December 12.
With the exception of the goalless draw against Burnley, Ajayi has put in a full shift in all the matches played by West Brom in this season's Premier League.
