A much-changed side couldn't get the job done and their loss to Southampton is followed by a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United at St. James' Park.
Ancelotti made five changes to the starting lineup, one of which saw Alex Iwobi drop to the bench after an underwhelming performance against the Saints last weekend.
Callum Wilson's second half brace won it for Newcastle, Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored to set up a thrilling finish but the Magpies held on for victory.
Iwobi looked lively after coming off the bench to replace Jonjoe Kenny in the 77th minute and was involved in the build up to Everton's goal as Calvert-Lewin tucked home with a precise finish after meeting an inviting cross from the Nigeria international.
Four minutes from time, the former Arsenal star also found the England striker but he put his finish the wrong side of the post and another of his testing cross was headed clear by the Newcastle defence.
Iwobi and his teammates face Manchester United next weekend before his trip to Benin City for international duty with the Nigeria squad.
