'Shola Has Been A Regular In U23s' - Man Utd Coach Delighted With Progress Of Winger

Manchester United U18 coach Neil Ryan is delighted with the development of Anglo-Nigerian winger Shola Shoretire over the last eight months ahead of his side's mouth-watering clash with Chelsea in the semifinal of the 2019-2020 FA Youth Cup on Friday night.

The England youth international has broken into the Red Devils U23 set up in the new season but remains eligible to feature against the Blues as he's a 2004-born player and was on the books of the club last season.

Shoretire made his debut for Manchester United U18s while still a schoolboy and became the youngest player to represent the club in the UEFA Youth League after he was handed a 15-minute runout against Valencia in December 2018.

"The change over the last eight months or so, physically, over lockdown due to the programmes they all worked on, you can see it in them," Ryan said to United's official website.

"Shola Shoretire and Omari Forson were schoolboys last season but Shola has been a regular in the Under-23s and Omari is playing a lot of Under-18s football.

"It's a big step from schoolboy to young professional football they've taken and it's the same for a number of boys, it'll be interesting to see how well we match up against them."

Bryan Fiabema, Faustino Anjorin and Derrick Abu are eligible to represent Chelsea in tonight's game, while United's Dillon Hoogewerf could be called upon if needed.
