Promising Left-back Koiki Set To Leave Burnley After Turning Down New Contract
Published: September 03, 2020Promising Nigerian left-back Ali Koiki is set to bid farewell to Premier League side Burnley after turning down the opportunity to extend his stay at Turf Moor, according to reports.
Lancs Live says Koiki has decided to move onto pastures new because he wants to play first team football, something which the Clarets have not offered him in the last few seasons.
Despite the Premier League permitting clubs to name up to 20 players in their matchday squads, he wasn't involved in any of the games played by Burnley after the lockdown due to uncertainty over his future.
The defender has trained with Charlton Athletic in pre-season but the Addicks face a stumbling block to sign him because they are under a transfer embargo.
Koiki enjoyed a taste of first team football at League Two club Swindon Town during the second half of the 2018-19 season, making 15 appearances in total of which thirteen were starts.
A product of the Crystal Palace Academy, the 21-year-old joined Burnley in 2016 after a successful trial.
