Two 17-Year-Olds Of Nigerian Descent Rejoice After Non-competitive Debut For Arsenal
Published: August 26, 2020Two 17-year-olds of Nigerian descent in the shape of Miguel Azeez and Daniel Oyegoke were delighted after making their non-competitive debut for Arsenal in a 4-1 defeat of MK Dons at Stadium MK on Tuesday evening, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Arsenal announced from the word go that Mikel Arteta would be fielding a team containing first team stars and the promising players in the academy against the League One opponents.
Azeez and Oyegoke were among five Nigeria-eligible players aged 21 or under handed game time by the Spanish football tactician, with Bukayo Saka named in the starting lineup.
A central midfielder by trade, Azeez came off the bench to replace Xhaka on 62 minutes while right-back Oyegoke came on in the closing minutes.
Writing on Instagram, Azeez said : "Grateful for this opportunity with the first team today, hopefully many more to come. All glory to God🙌🏽."
Oyegoke stated : "Happy to make my first team debut for @arsenal ...".
Arsenal's first competitive match of the 2020-2021 season is against Premier League champions Liverpool in the FA Community Shield this coming Saturday.
