Two Nigeria-Eligible Midfielders Win Premier League 2 With Chelsea
Published: August 07, 2020Chelsea have been crowned champions of the Premier League 2, the official website of the Blues announced on Friday, August 7.
Chelsea were awarded the title after it was confirmed by the Premier League that the winner of the 2019-2020 season, which was curtailed in May due to the coronavirus crisis, would be decided on a points-per-game basis.
Before the Premier League 2 was halted, Chelsea were unbeaten in 18 matches and topped the table with 38 points, three more than second placed Leicester City.
Versatile midfielder Faustino Anjorin ended the campaign as Chelsea's leading scorer in the Premier League 2, with five goals to his name from eleven appearances.
The 18-year-old would later go on to make his Premier League debut in a 4-0 hammering of Everton on March 8.
Another Nigeria-eligible midfielder in Tariq Uwakwe was on 11 Premier League 2 games before the Academy season was curtailed.
Aged 20, he started and scored against Manchester City in a 2-1 win back in November, his only goal in the division last term.
Chelsea are the third club to win the Premier League 2 after its restructure and introduction at the start of the 2016-17 season.
