Former Manchester United and England defender Rio Ferdinand on Friday evening reflected on his visit to Lagos, Nigeria and expressed gratitude to the club's fans in the country for their amazing show of love towards him and their admirable support of the Red Devils.
Ferdinand on his verified twitter handle, @rioferdy5, bared his mind in a short but heartwarming message to the club's supporters who welcomed him during his stay for promotional campaign of one of the leading alcoholic drinks in the world.
"Nigeria.... Thank You!
"The love you gave me, the premier league, Manchester United etc... it warms my heart!"
The onetime Leeds United star played 312 times for Manchester United and had 81 caps for the Three Lions of England.
Ferdinand had been in Nigeria before, in 2008, when he was on a two day tour of Lagos on the invitation of the then Lagos state governor Babatunde Raji Fashola - himself a decent footballer and ardent supporter of Manchester United.
On that occasion, Ferdinand was given the chieftaincy title of 'Fiwagboye' by the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu which literally means 'Character maketh wealth."
Ferdinand is presently a pundit for BT Sport in London.
