Barcelona striker Asisat Oshoala was named Confederation of African Football Women's Player of the Year for 2019 on Tuesday evening at the Albatros Citadel Hotel Sahl Hasheesh, Hurghada.
The Super Falcons captain beat Ajara Nchout (Cameroon & Valerenga) and Thembi Kgatlana (South Africa & Beijing Phoenix FC) to the award.
This is the fourth time Oshoala has won the Player of the Year as she was previously selected in 2014, 2016 and 2017, equaling the achievement of Nigeria great Perpetua Nkwocha.
The Super Falcons, coach Thomas Dennerby, Samuel Chukwueze and Victor Osimhen who all made the final shortlists for their respective categories did not receive any prize.
For the African Youth Player of the Year, Borussia Dortmund's Morocco national-teamer Achraf Hakimi won the accolade ahead of his Nigerian rivals.
South Africa's Diseree Ellis was crowned Women's African Coach of the Year and Cameroon were named the best female team on the African continent.
The likes of Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi and Odion Ighalo missed out on FIFPro Africa's Best Eleven, a prestigious list containing Premier League stars such as Riyad Mahrez, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Joel Matip, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Serge Aurier.
The main award of the evening, African Player of the Year, went to Liverpool's Mane who edged Salah and Mahrez to the prestigious award.
