The Top Five Nigerian Transfers In The Summer Transfer Window

With the summer transfer window closing on September 2 in most European countries, allnigeriasoccer.com's transfer market expert Ifeanyi Emmanuel takes a look at the moves involving Nigerian players and presents the top five key transfers.

1) Alex Iwobi (Arsenal to Everton ) : The Super Eagles winger became the most expensive player of Nigerian descent in history after joining Everton on a five-year deal for a fee in the region of £35 million.

Gunners manager Unai Emery had been in the market for a winger and eventually signed Nicolas Pépé.

Iwobi would have fallen down the pecking order if he had remained at the Emirates Stadium. He has scored twice in his last two games in all competitions.

2) Victor Osimhen (RSC Charleroi to Lille) : Osimhen was courted by several clubs including AC Milan, Atalanta before joining Lille.

The young striker has had a brilliant start to his career at Lille, netting four goals in four Ligue 1 appearances and is set to feature in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League.

3) Semi Ajayi (Rotherham United to West Brom) : The former Arsenal U23 captain definitely would have lost his spot in the Super Eagles if he had not switched clubs.

And he is guaranteed games at The Baggies who are one of the teams tipped to be promoted to the Premier League at the end of the season, having started all their six matches in the Championship.

4) Joe Aribo (Charlton Athletic to Glasgow Rangers) : One of the most significant transfers in Scotland this summer. Rangers signed a very good player for a nominal fee.

With three goals to his name in the qualifying rounds of the Europa League, the versatile midfielder was a popular choice among the fans when he was handed a maiden call-up to the Nigeria squad for the friendly against Ukraine next week.

5) Kenneth Omeruo (Chelsea to Leganes) : It took a long time but in the end it happened. Leganes finally got one of their primary transfer targets after several weeks of negotiations.

When you consider Omeruo's game improved at the 2019 AFCON, the permanent signing of the central defender is one that will benefit club and country.
