The transfer of Harry Maguire from Leicester City to Manchester United was made official on Monday.
According to BBC, the England international cost the Red Devils £80 million and is officially the most expensive center back in history, surpassing Matthijs de Ligt's £77m move from Ajax to Juventus.
Former Super Eagle Taribo West holds the record of being the most expensive Nigerian central defender of all time after Inter Milan paid 10.2 million pounds to sign him from Auxerre in 1997.
West was the most expensive defender in the world before the record was broken by Jaap Stam who joined Manchester United from PSV for a transfer fee of £10.6m.
Joseph Enakarhire's transfer from Sporting CP to Dynamo Moscow in 2005 for a fee of 5.5 million pounds is the second costliest transfer involving a Nigerian center back.
Ex-Everton star Joseph Yobo also cost 5.5 million pounds when he joined the Premier League side from Marseille in 2003.
The fourth most expensive Nigerian center back is Onyekachi Apam, having signed for Rennes for £3.7m, while William Troost-Ekong comes fifth in the ranking after costing Udinese approximately £3m in 2018.
