Done Deal : Talented Midfielder Uwakwe Signs New Three-Year Contract With Chelsea
Published: July 01, 2019Europa League winners Chelsea write on their official website that London-born Nigerian midfielder Tariq Uwakwe has committed his future to the club.
If club and player honour the new agreement, Uwakwe will remain at Stamford Bridge until at least the end of the 2021-2022 season having put pen to paper on a three-year contract.
Uwakwe joined Chelsea as an U9 and is entering his 12th season with the club.
Although he has yet to make his professional debut, he is widely regarded as one of the top prospects at Chelsea and was invited to train with the first team ahead of a Premier League fixture against Tottenham Hotspur in February.
The 19-year-old was part of the England squad that won the prestigious Toulon Tournament in 2017 and has also earned caps for the Young Lions U18 and U19 squads in friendly matches.
Uwakwe was an influential member of the Chelsea U18 squad that won the quadruple in the 2017-2018 season.
