EPL Wrap: Iwobi Game-Changer; Success Hits Post; Balogun Bench; Iheanacho Aerial Threat; Ndidi Stars; Moses In 18
Published: September 29, 2018A round-up of Nigerian players that were in action for their
respective clubs in the English Premier League on Saturday, September 29.
Nigerian players with dual nationalities and have played
competitively for the senior national teams of other countries have been
omitted.
At Goodison Park, Nigeria target Ademola Lookman watched proceedings from the bench as Everton secured a 3-0 win over Fulham, courtesy of second half goals from Gylfi Sigurdsson (2) and Cenk Tosun.
Former Denmark U21 international Philip Billing made his seventh consecutive start of the season as Huddersfield Town were beaten 2-0 by Tottenham Hotspur at The John Smith's Stadium, the number eight played the entirety of the game and was cautioned in the 86th minute.
A first half double from England striker Harry Kane gave the London team the three points. Young midfielder Luke Amos was not in the Spurs side.
Over to the Etihad Stadium, champions Manchester City remain unbeaten after seven games and their 2-0 win against Leon Balogun's Brighton & Hove means they provisionally top the table before the match of the weekend between Chelsea and Liverpool.
The Nigeria international defender was a non-playing sub for the fourth game in a row. A 29th minute goal from Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero's 65th minute strike secured City their sixth win of the season.
At the Emirates Stadium, Alex Iwobi and Isaac Success were both in action for Arsenal and Watford, a game which ended in a 2-0 defeat for the visitors but it could have been a different story if the Hornets number ten's effort had not clipped the post in the 75th minute.
Craig Cathcart scored at the wrong end to make it 1 - 0 in the 80th minute with Iwobi involved in the buildup after he did well to pick out Lacazette, before Mesut Ozil doubled the advantage two minutes later.
Iwobi was introduced in the 63rd minute and was joined on the pitch nine minutes later by Success.
Next to St. James' Park , Newcastle United continued their winless start to the season, beaten 2-0 by Leicester City, with Jamie Vardy and Harry Maguire registering their names on the score-sheet in the 30th and 73rd minute respectively.
Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho was an aerial threat, winning five aerial battles and was in action for ninety minutes along with international teammate Wilfred Ndidi.
Last but not least, Victor Moses starts on the bench for Chelsea against Dominic Solanke's Liverpool at Stamford Bridge. The England U21 star is not in the Reds 18 for this one.
