Leicester City's Nigerian Striker Battling Chelsea, Man Utd Starlets For Top PL2 Award
Published: September 04, 2018Leicester City's Nigerian striker Layton Ndukwu has been nominated for the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award for August 2018 and has to see off competition from eight talented youngsters to win the accolade.
The eight other contenders are : Manchester United's Angel Gomes, Chelsea's Tariq Lamptey, Brighton's duo Viktor Gyokeres and Aaron Connolly, Reading's Danny Loader, Sunderland's Luke Molyneux, West Ham's Xande Silva and Man City's Nabil Touaizi.
Explaining why Ndukwu was nominated for the Player of the Month prize, the Premier League wrote on their official website : ''The 19-year-old Leicester City striker scored three PL2 goals in August as three wins took the Foxes to the top of the table.''
The former England U17 star opened his account for the season against Swansea at the KP on August 13 before taking his tally to three goals with a brace against Blackburn Rovers on August 27.
Ndukwu will discover if he won the first monthly prize on September 10 when the winner is announced.
He has been registered for the Premier League as an U21 player along with Edward Elewa-Ikpakwu, Habib Makanjuola and Calvin Ughelumba.
Ndukwu was an unused substitute in the Foxes final match in the English topflight last season at Tottenham Hotspur.
