2018 World Cup : Man Utd Legend Says Messi Will Be Remembered For Goal Vs Nigeria
Published: July 01, 2018Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand believes that the
elimination of Argentina and Portugal from the World Cup on Saturday
proves that football is a team game.
Barcelona
striker Messi carried the hopes of his nation in Russia, but he did not
live up to his billing, scoring only once in the tournament and missed a
penalty against Iceland.
Former England
central defender Ferdinand says Messi's 14th minute goal against the
Super Eagles was one of the moments of the 2018 World Cup and also
highlighted Cristiano Ronaldo's individual performance against Spain, a
game in which he notched a hat-trick.
''The
2 Greats have departed the #worldcup at the same stage on the same
day... Ronaldo will be remembered at this World Cup for his hattrick
against one of the favourites Spain,'' Ferdinand wrote on Twitter.
''Messi for his one moment of brilliance against Nigeria! Just proves football is a TEAM game!''
Messi
has been directly involved in seven goals (5 goals and 2 assists)
Argentina have scored against the Nigerian national teams from six
appearances.
