Super Eagles Wing-Back Aims Thinly-Veiled Dig At Omeruo Over Messi's Goal Vs Nigeria
Published: June 28, 2018Super Eagles left wing-back Brian Idowu aimed a thinly-veiled dig at Chelsea defender Kenneth Omeruo in the wake of the national team's elimination from the 2018 World Cup after losing 2-1 to Argentina.
Idowu's comments suggest that he has inferred that the Barcelona superstar took advantage of poor marking by Omeruo, who was deployed as a left-sided central defender, before scoring a stunning goal in the 14th minute to give the South Americans the lead.
''The first goal - just a little bit of space one time we didn't get the man (Omeruo,ed) on him at the right time at the right spot, he just opened up, got through, got the ball - finished it,'' Idowu was quoted as saying by Goal.com.
''A world-class finisher, that's why he's the best player in the world.
Reacting to the second goal conceded by the Super Eagles, Idowu said : ''But then still there was no doubt in my mind and when Mercado got the ball and crossed, I was in shock because I saw that Rojo scored and how the hell did he get there?
''That's football for you, I think the fans got emotional and enjoyed the emotion of this game. It was a thriller to the end and for the football fans out there, I think they have enjoyed it.''

Argentina will now face 1998 champions France in the last sixteen of the World Cup.
