Super Eagles Coach Rohr : Your Real Character Comes Out When You Lose
Published: June 25, 2018German football tactician Gernot Rohr has spoken about the character of the Super Eagles squad, and has praised the players for getting their World Cup campaign back on track with a win against Iceland.
Rohr has always maintained that the Super Eagles were organized in their opening match against Croatia but were unfortunate to lose after conceding 'two stupid goals', and a defeat against Iceland would have put them out of contention for a last sixteen spot ahead of tomorrow's important match with Argentina.
Nigeria would reach the knockout phase for the fourth time in six World Cup tournaments if they beat Argentina in St Petersburg regardless of the result between Croatia and Iceland.
''Despite the huge pressure of expectation, it's important that the joy of participating at a World Cup remains tangible in every training session,'' Rohr said to fifa.com.
''It's easy to show solidarity when you win but your real character only comes out when you lose."
He added : ''If you have a young team then you have to be patient and accept that mistakes will happen because they're part and parcel of the game.
''Even between our first and second games I could see a learning process taking place. The team will get better again in the third match."
Nigeria became Africa's most successful team in World Cup history, ahead of Cameroon, following their 2-0 win over Iceland.
