Super Eagles Receive Sympathy From Arsenal Over Loss To Croatia
Published: June 17, 2018The Super Eagles have received sympathy from Premier League side Arsenal in the wake of their 2-0 loss to Croatia in both countries World Cup opener on Saturday evening.
Hale End Academy product Alex Iwobi followed in the footsteps of former Gunners striker Nwankwo Kanu by making his World Cup debut for the Super Eagles.
The Arsenal number seventeen came close to scoring an equalizer just before half-time but saw his shot blocked.
''Congratulations to #CRO, commiserations to #NGA It wasn't to be for @alexiwobi and @NGSuperEagles tonight - their next game is on Friday against #ISL,'' Arsenal wrote on Twitter.
In a tactical substitution, Iwobi was replaced by Leicester City striker Ahmed Musa in the 62nd minute.
Nigeria will tackle Iceland in a make-or-mar clash at the Volgograd Arena (Volgograd) on Friday afternoon, starting from 1600 hours.
