Argentine GK Who Could Face Nigeria : Call-Up Deserved, I Played Several Games At Chelsea
Published: March 07, 2018Chelsea's Argentine goalkeeper Wilfredo Caballero has declared that he deserved to be summoned for the national team's upcoming games against Italy and Spain, saying that he has played several matches for the Premier League champions this season.
An Olympic champion with Argentina in 2004, the ex-Manchester City netminder has yet to debut for the The Albiceleste since he was first called up thirteen years, but is hopeful he will be included on the roster for the 2018 World Cup.
''This year I think it's more deserved. Last year I played a lot in the City and this year I played several matches at Chelsea. I do not know if at a great level, but feeling very good,'' said Caballero to Ole Argentina.
''And playing in teams of this size is not easy, you do not have the run of other goalkeepers. That helped the coach convince himself that he can count on me. ''
On his chances of making Argentina's World Cup squad, he stated : ''I want to believe that there is such a possibility, for that it's useful for me to go to this call, to fight from the first day since the first training.
''I would not like or want to get in my head that I'm going to fill in a list. I want to be important. Hopefully I can show they can count on me too. Then it's the coach's decision.''
Nigeria will meet Argentina for the fifth time in the group stage of the World Cup at Krestovsky Stadium, Saint Petersburg on June 26, 2018.
