Brighton & Hove Striker Celebrates Call-Up To Nigeria Squad With Goal
Published: February 23, 2018Brighton & Hove striker Ini Umotong celebrated her recent call-up to Nigeria Women's National Team by scoring a goal as the Seagulls demolished Oxford United 5-1 at Culver Road on Thursday night.
Natkiel got the scoring underway with a long-range strike after four minutes, then Whelan doubled Albion's advantage with a close-range effort with Umotong involved in the build-up to the goal.
In the second half, the Super Falcons star made it 4-1 when she fired past Oxford United goalkeeper Demi Lambourne after some fancy footwork; Whelan added two more for her hat-trick.
Umotong was on the books of Oxford United for seventeen months before shifting to Brighton & Hove in July 2017.
The 23-year-old has been the top scorer in the Women's Super League 2 before, back in 2016 when she tallied 13 goals for Portsmouth.
She earned her maiden Nigeria cap against Mali three years ago and was named to the roster for the last Women's World Cup in Canada.
Born in Calabar to Nigerian parents, Umotong started off her career with Birmingham City before moving to Aston Villa and Wright State Raiders.
