UYL Wrap: Bennetts Scores World-Class Goal, Eyoma Captains Spurs, Okafor Starts For Basel
Published: February 21, 2018Tottenham Hotspur have set up a meeting with Porto in the quarterfinal of the UEFA Youth League next month after beating Monaco 3-1 on penalties at Stevenage on Wednesday afternoon.
England U17 World Cup-winning defender Timothy Eyoma captained Spurs for this one and he was joined in the starting line-up by versatile winger Keanan Bennetts.
Goalkeeper Joshua Oluwayemi, Jubril Okedina, Moroyin Omolabi and Nonso Madueke were not included on Spurs team-sheet.
Monaco took the lead through Nabil Alioui just before half-time, the striker forced the ball in after a cross was not cleared properly.
Four minutes into the second half, Tottenham Hotspur were back on level terms thanks to a wonderful strike from Bennetts, who beat three Monaco defenders before firing home a curling shot.
Spurs midfielder Shashoua missed in the penalty shootout, while Monaco trio Bongiovanni, Antonucci and Sylla were unsuccessful.
Elsewhere, Noah Okafor and Basel have crashed out of the competition following their narrow 1-0 loss to
Atlético Madrid U19 at Miniestadio Cerro del Espino.
The Spanish side netted the winner through Alberto Salido on 83 minutes, a quarter of an hour after Okafor subbed out.
