Former Fulham GK Debuts For Nigeria, Replaces Injured Rufai At 'Legends World Cup'
Published: July 17, 2017Nigeria goalkeeper at the 2017 Star Sixes tournament at London's 02 Arena, Peter Rufai, could not complete the Super Eagles Legends quarterfinal clash against Spain on Saturday.
Former Birmingham City and Fulham netminder Maik Taylor, who is a retired Northern Ireland international, had to enter into the fray with the Super Eagles losing 4-0.
Contrary to suggestions that Taylor was begged to play for Nigeria, the organizers registered him as the 121st player, who will operate as reserve goalkeeper for all 12 nations.
Taylor was on standby to deputise should any of the countries’ goalkeepers be ruled out by injury or illness.
Ex-Everton striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni scored his fourth goal of the competition in Nigeria's 8-1 loss to Spain.
The Super Eagles beat China 3-2 in their opening game before losing their next three.
