Revealed : Spurs Did Not Sell Yahaya To Portimonense, Asked For A Refund; Striker Failed Trials
Published: January 18, 2017Suggestions that Musa Yahaya’s proposed move to Tottenham Hotspur failed to materialize last January because his camp broke a non-disclosure agreement are wide of the mark.
It has come to light that the White Hart Lane outfit passed up the opportunity to sign the Nigeria youth international because he did not impress the coaching staff during the few times he trained with the club and his injury history was not impressive.
There are claims Tottenham Hotspur sold Yahaya to Portimonense but that is far from the truth for the simple reason that the Nigeria Football Federation never released his International Transfer Certificate to the English FA, therefore, the Premier League side could not conduct transfer business with any other party or face Fifa sanctions.
“Spurs only had the right of first refusal and that was not a guarantee they were going to sign Yahaya when he turned 18 years, ” a Nigeria Football Federation insider told allnigeriasoccer.com.
“There was an agreement that if they don’t sign him Mutunchi Academy have to return the initial fee they paid after he signed the pre-contract.
“He suffered frequent injuries, more or less he failed trials. The NFF never issued an ITC, so no way Spurs sold him to Portimonense. They asked for their refund from Mutunchi Academy and his agent Babawo Mohammed.”
A product of Sharp Shooter, Musa Yahaya is now on the books of Porto.
