Celtic's Nigerian winger agrees transfer to Middlesbrough subject to medical

EFL Championship outfit Middlesbrough are reportedly on the verge of announcing the signing of Glasgow-born Nigerian winger Josh Dede.

According to Football Insider, Dede is undergoing a medical at Middlesbrough on Wednesday, having agreed a deal to join the English second-tier club from Scottish Premiership champions Celtic.

Boro are set to sign Dede five months before the expiration of his contract with Celtic.

Considered a promising talent within Celtic's coaching setup, Dede has trained with the first team in their last two summer camps and was on the bench for the pre-season friendlies against Chelsea and Manchester City in July 2024.

The 19-year-old is set to follow in the footsteps of Nigerian duo Armstrong Okoflex and Bosun Lawal who departed Celtic for England in recent seasons.

Since Celtic's first campaign in the Lowland League in 2021-2022, Dede has been actively involved with the B Team setup.

He has played 21 games in the Lowland League this season, netting three goals, while also starting in all six of his UEFA Youth League appearances.

Although Dede is provisionally cap-tied to Scotland, he is seemingly a fan of the Super Eagles as he follows the three-time African champions on social media.

He has been on Celtic's books for over eight years, having officially joined the Glasgow club in July 2016.
