Arsenal Ladies Striker Oshoala Joins Uwak, Nkwocha In CAF History Books
Published: January 06, 2017Arsenal Ladies striker Asisat Oshoala was named the 2016 African Women’s Player of the Year at an awards ceremony organized by CAF in conjunction with Globacom Limited on Thursday.
The Super Falcons star won the award for the second time in her career, and became the third Nigerian player to win the accolade more than once, following in the footsteps of Cynthia Uwak and Perpetua Nkwocha.
2016 saw Oshoala win the top scorer award at the African Women Cup of Nations and she started every single game played by the defending champions in Cameroon, where she was one of the best players.
The 22-year-old joined Arsenal Ladies in March after spending the previous season at Liverpool Ladies.
Nigeria won the Women’s National Team of the Year, while Kelechi Iheanacho (Man City) and Alex Iwobi (Arsenal) were named as substitutes in Africa Finest XI.
