Nigeria Coach Frustrated After Embarrassing Loss To Denmark
Published: June 04, 2016Samson Siasia has admitted that he was embarrassed after the Nigeria U23s lost 6-2 to Denmark in the Suwon Invitational Tournament on Saturday, and reiterated that the team made several mistakes.
The former Nantes striker saw his team out muscled and they would have suffered more humiliation if Taiwo Abdulrahman had not netted a brace in the closing minutes to reduce the deficit to four goals.
“We got it wrong from the blast of the referee’s whistle; we made so many mistakes; we didn’t play like we were meant to,” Siasia said, according to thenff.com.
“The Danes did not play so well in their first game but they were tactically sound and we simply did not know how to defend against them.”
He added : “It’s so embarrassing. I have never lost by six goals anywhere since I started my coaching career.
“All the same, that’s why we are here, to look at the guys that can play, and the ones that we can take to the Olympics.”
The Nigeria U23s will return to action on Monday when they face Honduras in their final game of the tourney at Bucheon Sports Complex, starting from 1530 hours local time.
