Ejike Uzoenyi : This Is The Greatest Comeback I Have Witnessed
Published: January 25, 2014Enugu Rangers winger Ejike Uzoenyi has admitted that the 4 - 3 win over Morocco on Saturday in the quarter - finals of the African Nations Championship was the greatest comeback he has witnessed as a professional footballer.
The Super Eagles really looked dead and buried trailing by three goals at the end of the first half.
But Ejike Uzoenyi, player of the tournament so far, leveled on the dot of 90 minutes to take the game to extra time before Aliyu Ibrahim scored what turned out to be the match winner nine minutes before the final whistle.
“God made this victory possible for us and over 160 million Nigerians.
“Even when we were 3 goals down, we never lost hope. This is the greatest comeback I have been involved in. It is so unbelievable.
“I am happy I won the Man of the Match award again, but this victory should not be attributed to Ejike alone. Thanks to my teammates for bringing out the best in me.
“We are prepared to meet any team in the semi - final. I don’t have any preference,” Ejike Uzoenyi told allnigeriasoccer.com moments after the final whistle in Cape Town.
The Super Eagles will meet a yet to be determined opponent next Wednesday. January 29 at Free State Stadium, Mangaung.
