Exclusive: Oak Zeeel Sign Nigeria International Chibuzor Okonkwo
Published: February 21, 2013In what is undoubtedly the biggest transfer in the Nigerian league in recent pass, non-league clubside Oak Zeel FC of Nsukka have, in an unprecedented move, signed Nigerian international defender Chibuzor Okonkwo on a four -deal.
Chibuzor Okonkwo's last club was Heartland FC but he was released at the end of last season.
At a time top Finnish side FC Inter Turku offered Chibuzor a 2 year contract but soon rescinded the offer when the player took too long to make up his mind.
Now Oak Zeel FC recognised the potential in Chibuzor and signed him on a bumber package, and have loaned him to Rangers International of Enugu for the up coming season but with a clause that they can sell him any time an offer from abroad comes for the Beijing 2008 Olympic silver medallist.
Speaking to allnigeriasoccer.com, Mr. Valentine Okechukwu Omeje, the propreitor of OAk Zeel FC revealed his delight at the deal, stressing that it was one that would benefit all parties involved.
"Chibuzor Okonkwo is of a very high pedigree, and so we decided to snap him up immediately we learnt he was a free agent.
''Oak Zeel FC is a very ambitious club side and we are looking for opportunities to bring our experience in international football and football business to bear in Nigerian football.
''Being an indigene of Enugu State, I decided to loan him to my state club because he needs to regain match fitness before proceeding abroad as we are very certain to get him a European club very soon.
''My club shall be on the look out for the brightest prospects in Nigerian football whom we shall sign, send on loan to Premier league clubs for exposure and match fitness and then send abroad to our numerous European club partners.
''Chibuzor Okonkwo and Rangers are just the beginning," said an elated Omeje.
