Super Eagles Could Win =N=650 Million Confederations Cup Jackpot
Published: February 15, 2013The Super Eagles, Africa's sole representative in the Fifa Confederations Cup, could win a jackpot of US$4.1 million if they emerge winners of the competition holding in Brazil from June 15 - 30.
Football's governing body Fifa has announced that the total prize money has increased by 14 percent in comparison with the last tournament hosted by South Africa in 2009.
US$20 million is the total prize money which will be shared between the participating countries. While the winners will take home $4.1 million, the runners up will receive $3.6 million. The third placed team gets $3 million while the other semi-finalist will earn $2.5 million.
The remaining four teams that fail to qualify for the last four of the tournament will pocket $1.7 million each., which is more than the 1.5 million dollars Nigeria earned for winning the just concluded African Cup of Nations.
Nigeria is drawn in Group B alongside world and European champions Spain, South American champions Uruguay and Oceania representatives Tahiti.
