Ogunjobi Salutes Flying Eagles
Published: October 08, 2012
Former General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Association, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi, has heaped plaudits on the Flying Eagles following Sunday’s emphatic 3-1 victory over the Amajita of South Africa in the return leg match of the final qualifying games for the 2013 African Youth Championship slated for Algeria.
Ogunjobi said that the squad has clearly made a statement that indeed they are ready to defend their African crown.
“South Africa is coming out strong in African football and I think this victory today (Sunday) has proved our superiority over them,” Ogunjobi said.
“After the first leg (1-1) draw they still boasted of upstaging us here but now they have been placed where they really belong and I commend the players for a job well done.
“Above all, qualifying for the 2013 AYC is a first step for them to retaining the crown and I believe with hard work they can retain it.”
The Osun State FA Chairman who is also a CAF/FIFA Match Commissioner further stated that Flying Eagles victory and qualification for the 2013 AYC has erased the sad memory of the Flamingoes’ defeat in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Azerbaijan.
