AKEEM LATIFU Scores First Goal Of The Season
Published: September 16, 2012Akeem Latifu is delighted to score his first competitive goal for Norwegian first division club IL Hødd this season in Sunday's 4-1 trashing of relegation candidates Strømmen.
The former Nigeria youth - teamer was on target in the 53rd minute. And he could have grabbed a second if he had been more decisive in front of goal.
''It's more important that we won the game, and got the three points at stake. This brings temporary relief to the team in our fight against relegation. Of course I am happy to score my first goal for Hodd in the 2012 season, especially as the goal was scored in front of our loyal supporters. I dedicate this goal to them. They have been very supportive throughout the season,'' Akeem Latifu told allnigeriasoccer.com.
''There are eight games left in the championship. If we win our outstanding game and the teams above us suffer a dip in form, we might sneak into one of the play off spots when matches are concluded,'' adds the right back.
Discounting the matches played for the Flying Eagles at the Fifa Under 20s in Canada, next Thursday Latifu will be playing the most important game of his professional career.
Hodd meet Kim Ojo's SK Brann in the semi - final of the Norwegian Cup. If the village club make nonsense the form-book, they could be playing in the Europa League next season!
