Meet the future stars: Five Flying Eagles players to watch at 2025 U20 Afcon

As Nigeria’s Flying Eagles prepare for the 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations, head coach Aliyu Zubairu has named a 24-man squad packed with talent and promise.

Among the selected players, five standout individuals are poised to make a significant impact at the continental tournament which begins on the 27th of April.

Daniel Bameyi (Defender)

Team captain and defensive stalwart, Daniel Bameyi, brings leadership and experience to the backline.

The Bayelsa United defender has already earned recognition for his composure, tackling ability, and aerial prowess.

With the Flying Eagles aiming to qualify for the FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile, Bameyi’s presence at the heart of defence will be crucial to keeping opponents at bay.

Sulaiman Alabi Jojo (Midfielder)

A dynamic and combative midfielder, Jojo plays for El-Kanemi Warriors and has consistently impressed with his ball-winning skills and ability to dictate play in the centre of the park.

His stamina and vision make him an essential link between defence and attack. Jojo’s performances could be pivotal in determining Nigeria’s dominance in midfield battles.

Clinton Jephta (Forward)

Enyimba FC forward Clinton Jephta has pace, skill, and a keen eye for goal. Known for his incisive runs and ability to take on defenders, Jephta has the potential to be a match-winner.

His versatility across the front line provides Zubairu with a range of attacking options, making him one of the most exciting prospects in the squad.

Kparobo Nathaniel Arierhi (Forward)

Currently plying his trade at Lillestrom SK in Norway, Arierhi offers international experience and physical presence in the final third.

His intelligent movement and strong finishing ability will be vital as the Flying Eagles face Tunisia, Morocco, and Kenya in the group stage. Arierhi is expected to lead the line and convert Nigeria’s attacking intent into goals.

Precious Benjamin (Forward)

Standing at 1.82 meters tall, Precious Benjamin is an imposing figure in attack. The 18-year-old, who currently plays for TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in Germany, brings a mix of physicality and finesse to the forward line.

His ability to win aerial duels and his clinical finishing make him a dangerous threat in the box.

Benjamin’s performances will be key to Nigeria’s attacking success as they seek to dominate the competition.

With preparations complete and friendly matches lined up in Egypt ahead of their tournament opener against Tunisia, these five Flying Eagles players will be critical to Nigeria’s quest for an eighth continental title and a return to the FIFA U20 World Cup.
