No Debut For RAHEEM LAWAL, Problem Does Not End
Published: September 15, 2012
Raheem Lawal will not make his debut for Adana Demirspor in Sunday's game against Denizlispor, a club insider has informed allnigeriasoccer.com.
The Nigeria international in the last hours of the summer transfer market signed a two - year contract with the Turkish first division club.
To force his transfer to Turkey, Lawal unilaterally terminated his contract with Spanish club Atletico Baleares, claiming he was owed arrears of emoluments.
'''It shall be presumed, unless established to the contrary, that any club signing a professional who has terminated his contract without just cause has induced that professional to commit a breach. The club shall be banned from registering any new players, either nationally or internationally, for two registration periods,'' Fifa states in its regulations and adds:
''A club intending to conclude a contract with a professional must inform the player’s current club in writing before entering into negotiations with him. Any breach of this provision shall be subject to appropriate sanctions.''
Now, football governing body Fifa has to mediate in the dispute between Lawal and Atletico Baleares, and also rubber-stamp the player's move to Turkey.
The temporary solution to Lawal's problem is for UEFA to issue him with a temporary license. So far, that has not been forthcoming.
In practice, it could take more than a month before Fifa communicates its findings to Adana Demirspor, Atletico Baleares and Raheem Lawal.
