ABIKOYE Targets Return To Oman
Published: September 05, 2012
Former Sunshine Stars of Akure striker, Shakiru Abikoye has revealed that he is seriously thinking about making a return to the oil rich kingdom of Oman for a revival of his career, following two cries-riddled seasons playing for AS Tonerre of Benin Republic.
The former Sunshine Stars and Delta Force attacker once had a short stint with SC Oman in the Middle East nation and, although he had to make an unceremonious retreat when the club’s management suddenly changed hands after only six months of his arrival, he is now planning of making a return.
Abikoye went on to gain a change of nationality and even played a couple of matches for the home-based Beninoise national team and the junior squad, but never found the going rosy at club level.
“It is such a sad situation that clubs in Benin Republic don’t honour their contracts with players, and those of us from other countries are considered as outsiders, despite the fact that I have played for the national team.
“The league has been facing a lot of crisis ever since my arrival, which has prevented our clubs from paying us as expected. This is why I have started making plans for a return to Oman, and I pray that it will work out,” said the Kwara State-born free-scoring striker.
