OSAZE ODEMWINGIE Is Good But ............Eagles Media Man Speaks
Published: August 31, 2012More comments are still gushing through the corridors of Nigerian football, following the exclusion of West Bromwich Albion of England attacker, Peter Osaze Odemwingie from the Super Eagles squad for the September 8th Africa Cup of Nations qualifier away to Liberia.
The latest comment on Osaze’s repeated shut-out from the national team is coming from Eagles’ media officer, Ben Alaiya, who stated Friday morning on Lagos-based Metro FM programme, Metro Sports that the former Bendel Insurance ace is a good player, but other players also need chances to prove their mettle.
With Osaze still rated one of Nigeria’s best performers in Europe, even getting to score another goal on the opening day of the English Premier League, expectations had been rife that Eagles’ coach, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi (Big Boss) would include the half-caste star in the squad for the game in Monrovia.
However, Keshi continues keeping the former La Louvierre of Belgium, Lille Metropole of France and Lokomotiv Moscow of Russia star out of the Eagles’ picture, but Alaiya hinted that there is nothing unusual about the development.
“Osaze is a good player, no doubt,” said the ace sportswriter, who is also general manager of SportsDay newspaper. “He continues to give his best for his club, and I believe he can equally do the same for the Super Eagles.
“But the way things are for now is that we also have some other players that The Big Boss is relying on for now, and believes can also do well when given the chance.
“We have players like Izu Azuka, Sunday Mbah and others in camp, The Big Boss believes they can be relied on for now, because no single player is indispensable.”
