A fresh pointer has appeared that the last match of the Nigerian Nationwide League season might come up this Saturday after all, as officials of Union Bank FC of Lagos have intensified training at their home ground along Bode Thomas Street, Surulere.

A check at the venue by allnigeriasoccer.com on Monday morning revealed intense drills for the players by ex-international, Taiwo Enegwea (Energy), who is now head coach of The Stallions.

The expedited scope of training by the team is coming despite initial reports that all clubs in the third tier of the Nigerian league might have to wait until this Wednesday before they know their fate regarding the last kick of the season.

“It’s true that the initial talk was that the officials will meet this Wednesday in Abuja,” explained the club’s media officer, Abiodun Adedimeji (World Six).

“We were already looking forward to Wednesday to get the final state of affairs until a report came that we should prepare to face Ilesha West FC of Osun State this Saturday for our last match.

“Whatever happens, we are ready, considering that our status in the league is not under threat. Although several clubs are currently involved in match protests, which may alter the face of the table when some of them lose points, our own situation will see us place third at worst.”
