Exclusive: SAVIOR FIDELIS Replaces SIBI GWAR In Eagles Camp
Published: August 21, 2012
Niger Tornadoes striker Sibi Gwar, who made his international debut against Niger Republic last week, has left the Super Eagles camp to attend trials with Israeli club Bnei Yehuda.
Bnei Yehuda had invited Gwar for tests since July, but National Team duties prevented him from traveling. Stephen Keshi has given the forward his blessings for the trip, and quickly replaced him with the top goalscorer in Nigeria's second - tier this past season, Taraba United's Savior Fidelis, who spent the first half of the campaign at Kaduna United.
Allnigeriasoccer.com had exclusively revealed back in May that Savior Fidelis was on the radar of Stephen Keshi. Tipped by his scouting network, Keshi decided to make the long trip to Kaduna to run the rule over the 23-year-old forward. And he was impressed with player's all-round attacking qualities.
''I am pleasantly surprised. I came back from training this morning (Tuesday , ed). The Chairman of Taraba United, Tijani Babangida called me on phone to tell me of my invitation to the National Team. Thanks to coach Stephen Keshi for giving me this opportunity to represent my fatherland. I had always dreamed of representing my country,'' Fidelis, before leaving Kaduna for Abuja by road, told allnigeriasoccer.com in a telephone conversation.
He added: '' Keshi inviting me to the Super Eagles is a sign that the Nigeria National League is very competitive, more physical than the Premier League. I have played in both divisions, and I am in a good position to rate the two. I hope this call up will open the door to other very good players in the National League to make the National Team.''
In the just concluded season, Savior Fidelis bagged 12 goals in 13 matches for Taraba United who narrowly missed promotion with five points.
