Club Brugge attacker Joseph Akpala is on the brink of moving to the Bundesliga to join Werder Bremen, matching press reports in the German and Belgian media have revealed.

Werder and Brugge had been negotiating for Akpala since the start of the summer market. Now, a deal is imminent after both parties reportedly agreed a transfer fee of 2.5 million euros.

Joseph Akpala, a product of Bendel Insurance, has confirmed to  bild.de that the four-time champions of Germany are interested in bringing him to the Weserstadion.

''We are in very intensive talks with Werder. It would be a pleasure to play in the Bundesliga, it is one of the best leagues in the world. I am ready to accept the challenge,'' Akpala was quoted as saying by the online edition of Germany's most influential newspaper.

The Super Eagle, whose contract expires at the end of this season, was not suited for Brugge's home match against Beerschot on Saturday, fueling speculations that his exit from The Blue-Black is near.

Montpellier, FC Copenhagen, clubs in England and Scotland were reportedly interested in the signature of the 25-year-old this summer.
