AYO OLUWAFEMI SEEKS BIDVEST COMPENSATION
Published: August 04, 2012
South Africa-based left-wing-back, Ayo Oluwafemi has spoken of his search for compensation from The Rainbow Country’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) newcomers, Bidvest Wits, following the team’s shock decision to terminate his contract even before getting his first kick with them.
The former Jomo Cosmos, Pretoria University, Maritzburg United and Platinum Stars utility player got a rude end of month gift on Tuesday, when officials at Vets told him that his services is no longer required, without even explaining reasons for the decision.
Oluwafemi has taken time to reflect on matters leading up to Tuesday’s pronouncement and reasoned that speculation has already started emerging in corridors of BidVets that the arrival of a new management ion charge of the squad might have accounted for a change in policy for the new season.
“Apparently they sacked the team’s coach that signed me and the club’s new CEO is reshuffling the team to suit his new plans with his own players,” the Oyo State-born lad forwarded.
The freckle-faced player, who never played league football in Nigeria before storming Nelson Mandela’s country for a deal at Jomo Cosmos in 2003, has had similar contract hurdles with his last two clubs in South Africa – Maritzburg and Platinum Stars – but says his agent is already working on possibilities of compensation from his latest setback.
“We are already discussing compensation,” Oluwafemi disclosed. “We are still discussing with them and hopefully we will sort things out soon,” enthused the youngster, whose South African wife gave birth to their fist child a month ago, just two weeks before he sealed the BidVets deal.
