Published: July 19, 2012
25-year-old German - Nigerian midfielder Chinedu Ede has left FC Union Berlin and will sign a four-year contract with Bundesliga club Mainz, who pay the wages of Olympic National Team striker Anthony Ujah.
The transfer fee for Ede is a reported one million euros. His former club Hertha BSC will get an undisclosed percentage from the sale of the ex Germany youth - teamer.
''Ede is a typical Mainz 05-transfer. He started at the age of 19 years in the Bundesliga with Hertha, but he has managed only in the last year in the breakthrough of the second division.
''Thomas Tuchel (coach of Mainz, ed) is convinced the fast-rounder could play all three offensive positions behind the strikers. He has so far lacked consistency. We are convinced that we are the right club for Chinedu Ede and the right coach,"general manager of Mainz, Christian Heidel was quoted as saying by rhein-zeitung.de.
Chinedu Ede has played for Germany's Under 19 - 21 teams. He netted 7 goals in 31 appearances last season for FC Union Berlin.
