BENJAMIN ONWUACHI Targets Youth Development
Published: June 18, 2012Former Juventus of Italy youth prodigy, Benjamin Chukwuka Onwuachi (Investment) has restated his desire to float a youth football academy in the not too distant future.
The fair-skinned petit attacker, who has also played for Salernitana of Italy, Standard Liege of Belgium, Paninios and Kavala of Greece as well as APOEL Nicosia of Cyprus admitted that he had spoken about a similar project several times in the past, but says he is serious about actualizing his dream.
After setting in motion the basics of Gabriella Memorial Foundation in memory of his late baby daughter two years ago, the Delta State-born striker says his next target is to float a multi-purpose football school for kids in Lagos.,
“I want the academy to be al-inclusive, by which I mean it will have accommodation for the players, a bus to transport them for their matches, bonuses for each game they play and connections with foreign agents to ensure regular transfer of the players to top European clubs,” Onwuachi told allnigeriasoccer.com.
Although his initial plan was to set the academy in motion during the ongoing off-season, Onwuachi had to stay back to settle terms on a new deal.
Latest reports now indicate that the product of Ify Babes FC at Coker-Orile, Lagos has now been officially unveiled by late Olubayo Adefemi’s club, Skoda Xanthi after signing a contract with the Greek Super League outfit.
Though the duration of the contract was not disclosed, there are suggestions the 28-year-old fleet-footed striker signed a one-year deal with an option of renewal at the end of the 2012 - 2013 season.
Xanthi is Onwuachi's fifth club in Greece; having also played for Ionikos, Panetolikos and Kavala, where he spent two seasons and struck home 20 goals in 55 appearances.
