Odd Goal Gives Peru Victory
Peru defeated the Super Eagles of Nigeria by 1-0 in Wednesday's Fifa sanctioned friendly played at the National Stadium, Lima.

The aim of the friendly was to serve as a tune-up game for next month's World Cup(and Afcon) qualifiers for both teams, and a testimonial match for Peru's most capped player Roberto Palacios.

Hamburg's Paolo Guerrero nicked the only goal of the game nine minutes before the interval. Schalke 04 player Jefferson Farfan escaped through the midfield, found Luis Ramirez, who played a pass for an unmarked Guerrero to score.

Nigeria stepped up the tempo in the second stanza, with the introduction of their Europe based players - Ehiosun, Oduamadi, Lawal, Obiorah and Soriola - but their dominance did not translate into goals.

Though the Eagles lost, the positives from the game was the performance of Enyimba's Kalu Uche, the discipline and hard-work exhibited by a squad made up of largely home based players.

The Eagles next play competitive fixtures against Namibia, Malawi and Rwanda in a busy month of June.
