Match Fixing - EMMANUEL EMENIKE Testified From Russia
Published: May 22, 2012
According to reports in Turkey, Spartak Moscow's Nigerian striker Emmanuel Emenike has testified on match fixing allegations; following his refusal to play a league match against Fenerbahce last year.
It would be recalled that the Nigeria international was arrested by Turkish investigators, but later released. The match fixing investigations continued even after Emenike had departed Turkey to join Russian Premier League team, Spartak Moscow.
Last month, a Turkish Criminal Court sent a letter to their Russian counterparts, mandating the judicial authorities to obtain an urgent statement from the Nigerian ace. Emenike has testified, and his statement has been transferred to the Turkish authorities.
Emenike, who has repeated stated that there was an approval from club doctors to skip the game against Fenerbahce, faces up to three years in prison if he is found guilty of match fixing.
