OBI MIKEL Wants ROBERTO DI MATTEO To Remain With Chelsea
Published: May 21, 2012
Nigerian midfielder John Obi Mikel has joined the majority of Chelsea players that want gaffer Roberto Di Matteo to be given the job on a permanent basis. The Italian against all expectations guided Chelsea to win the Champions League.
''When he took over, he had a word with me and said he knows how good I am, I am just maybe lacking a bit of confidence. And he gave it back to me.
"I would like to see him get the job. But, at the end of the day, the club will make the right decision,'' says Mikel to VG.no.
The 25-year-old Nigeria international joined Chelsea six years ago from Norwegian side Lyn Oslo in controversial circumstances. Mikel had signed for Manchester United, but later claimed he was forced to do so under duress.
There were threats and allegations of kidnap. Mikel became afraid for his safety and that of his family. After signing for Manchester United, Mikel said he would use his sign on bonus of €900,000 to protect his family in Nigeria.
It was alleged that two officials of Lyn Oslo- Viggo Aaberg and Morgan Andersen - stood to pocket the sum of €250,000 each if Mikel changed his mind to sign for Chelsea...........
