'300% confident' - Youngest Nigerian to feature at World Cup predicts Super Eagles v Warriors
Published: March 23, 2025
Femi Opabunmi, Nigeria's youngest-ever World Cup player at 17 years and 101 days, is confident the Super Eagles will defeat Zimbabwe’s Warriors in Tuesday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
Nigeria secured a crucial 2-0 victory over Rwanda at the Amahoro Stadium on Friday evening, marking their first win in the qualifying campaign.
The victory propelled the Super Eagles to six points, placing them fourth in Group C, while Zimbabwe remain at the bottom with three points.
As Nigeria prepares to face the Warriors of Zimbabwe, Opabunmi has urged the players to maintain focus and avoid underestimating their opponents despite their position in the standings.
"I am 300 percent confident of a victory against Zimbabwe and I want to urge the Super Eagles players to take the match seriously," Opabunmi told allnigeriasoccer.com.
"They should not look at them as underdogs. Because Nigerians as a mentality to underrate some countries."
The former Nigerian international further predicted a convincing win for the Super Eagles, stating that the team could secure a 3-0 victory if they approach the match with the right mentality.
"If Nigeria takes the match seriously and I believe their spirit is high. Against Zimbabwe they would get maximum three points.
"I predict Nigeria to win against Zimbabwe 3-0 in Uyo," he added.
Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle will be hoping to build on the momentum from the Rwanda victory and further boost Nigeria's chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
